Bonsai Instructional Classes

History of Bonsai

Bonsai is the reproduction of natural tree forms in miniature. Liter ally translated, the word "Bonsai" means "tree in a pot". Contrary to popular belief, it was the Chinese who actually originated the art around 265-420 A.D., during the Jin Dynasty. However, over the past few centuries, the Japanese have developed bonsai into the art form that it is today.

Although the basic Bonsai techniques are firmly rooted in the Orient, the Western world has adopted this art into their culture. Bonsai has truly become an international hobby, becoming popular world wide.
